Bangkok is larger than New York, both to size and population. The population is almost 10 million, and they all have to eat.
Most food is sold at small food-stalls and street kitchens, that, in turn, get their supplies from open food markets. Due to lack of cold storage, they have to shop daily - or rather nightly - and most of them go to markets like the Klong Toey food market.
This is one of the absolute largest open air food markets in Bangkok, covering several acres of land in the part of the Klong Toey district, next to the main harbour of Bangkok. It is open around the clock but have its absolute peak, from 9 pm up to after midnight.
The food is brought in, being prepared; whole pigs being chopped, fish being scaled, chickens necked and plucked, vegetables washed and put on display - all to be sold during the night. All delivered by small trucks to the stalls.
